Getting paid: deposits, cash, payment links, and invoices

Take money the way your business actually runs — card, cash, or invoice — with a refundable deposit that's a real authorization hold, and a ledger that keeps it all straight.

Real rental businesses take money a dozen different ways: a card up front, cash at pickup, an invoice for a corporate client, a deposit you hold and release. LendingCloset supports all of it, and every dollar lands in one place so your numbers always reconcile.

Refundable deposits, done right

You choose how deposits work per store. In authorization-hold mode, the customer's card is authorized but not charged — the money is set aside, not taken. When the item comes back in good shape, you release the hold and nothing was ever charged. If there's damage, you capture some or all of it. Holds auto-release after about a week if you do nothing. Prefer the simpler route? Charge-and-refund mode charges the deposit with the rental and refunds it on return.

Card, cash, or a payment link

  • Send a payment link — a hosted Stripe checkout the customer pays from their phone.
  • Record a cash payment (or partial payment) taken in person, with a proper ledger entry.
  • Issue a Stripe invoice for offline and phone orders, numbered and emailed automatically.

Whichever you use, it posts to your Financials ledger. Cash and card sit side by side, refunds net out correctly, and you always know what's been collected versus what's still owed.

Charges after the rental

Things happen. If an item comes back damaged, needs cleaning, or is returned late, add a supplemental charge with a description and photos. Bill it as a payment link, or capture it straight from the deposit hold you're already holding.

The money never touches us

All of this runs on your own connected Stripe account. Payouts go to your bank on Stripe's normal schedule. LendingCloset only ever bills you your flat subscription.
